25 April 2021: Create Belief race review
Create Belief finished 10th in the Salsabil Stakes after travelling strongly for a long way and looking to come with a strong challenge approaching the final two furlongs. She weakened quickly and lost several places in the final furlong. It was evident she didn’t stay the 1 mile 2 furlongs and the plan will be to drop her back in trip on her next run. The ground was an unknown factor coming into the race today as both of her starts before today were on soft ground. It looks like she would prefer some dig in the ground but a lot has been learnt about her today which stands us in good stead moving forward. The bare result is disappointing but she showed she has plenty of ability and once dropping back in trip there are plenty of races to be won with her.
After the race Johnny Murtagh said “I agree with what Ben Coen had to say, it looked like she had a chance coming down to the two furlong pole. She travelled well but it’s a long way home in Navan, it’s a big hill, the last furlong really tests them, she just ran out of steam. I think I’ll definitely drop her back to a mile, she might just prefer a little bit of ease in the ground, the ground was pretty quick there, so a mile with cut in the ground is ideally the way forward. They were the two question marks coming into the race but we’ll learn a lot there. I do think she’ll win a listed race but I’m a little bit disappointed with the last two furlongs as she just tied up but she will have her day so certainly don’t be giving up on her.”
