17 April 2021: The Lir Jet Race Preview
The Lir Jet makes his seasonal reappearance tomorrow at Newbury in the Group 3 Greenham Stakes over 7 furlongs at 2.45pm. Oisin Murphy has been booked to ride. Traditionally a very strong race with recent previous winners including Frankel, Olympic Glory, Kingman, Muhaarar, Barney Roy and Mohaather to name a few. Tomorrow’s race looks full of quality as expected but we’re very much looking forward to seeing The Lir Jet back in action and in RacehorseClub colours for the first time.
The Lir Jet is drawn in stall 11 of 12 meaning he is drawn towards the stands side of the track. The favourite Chindit is in stall 8 and Nando Parrado in stall 9 so there’s a couple of fancied ones near him. The plan will be to go forward and get him into a nice rhythm. We hope he’s going to be a really progressive horse as the season goes on, but hopefully he runs a big race on his first start back.
Michael Bell reported today “The Lir Jet has had a very good winter, he’s strengthened up physically, his work has been good at home and I’m sure whatever he does tomorrow he will improve on. Newbury is a good track and it looks a perfect starting point for the season ahead for him. It looks like a very hot race on paper but hopefully he runs well. It is his first time over 7 furlongs tomorrow which will give us an idea for later in the season whether to stick to this trip or drop back down to 6 furlongs.
Royal Ascot will firmly be on the agenda whether that’s in the Jersey over 7 furlongs or the Commonwealth Cup over 6 furlongs. I wish you the very best of luck and I hope he runs with plenty of credit. Oisin Murphy is very familiar with The Lir Jet so it’s great to have him on board.”
The Lir Jet is currently priced around 16/1 which looks fair each way value.
