The Lir Jet finished 3rd on his seasonal reappearance this afternoon in the Group 3 Greenham Stakes, and what a huge race he ran. Breaking smartly from stall 11 under Oisin Murphy, he travelled strongly throughout the race always racing prominently. Coming into the final furlong he still had every chance but just being denied a neck and a neck by Chindit and Mehmento at the finish.
His in running comments were as follows: Took keen hold, tracked leaders, pushed along over 2f out, ridden 1f out, soon every chance, kept on, just held.
Michael Bell said after the race “I couldn’t be happier. A fantastic run and the perfect start to the season. He will come on for that run and what an exciting season ahead we have. I think we might have a crack at the French 2000 Guineas next at Paris Longchamp on 16th May. After his performance today he deserves to take his chance. We’ve got options trip wise now but we’ll get him home, see how he is in the morning and work away with him. Oisin was delighted with him. Well done to you all, I hope watching the race gave you a great thrill and here’s to a most exciting season ahead.”
