19 April 2021: The Lir Jet runs massive race to finish 3rd in Greenham

The Lir Jet got off to the most encouraging start to his season yesterday in the Group 3 Greenham Stakes at Newbury finishing 3rd beaten under a length. Always racing prominently, he still had every chance inside the final furlong but was narrowly beaten by Chindit and Mehmento.

The Greenham, traditionally an exceptional race with it's roll of honour including the likes of Frankel, Olympic Glory, Kingman, Muhaarar, Barney Roy and Mohaather to name a few, once again looked a very hot race on paper with some of the best three-year-old colts in the line-up.

Michael Bell reported after the race that the French 2000 Guineas was most likely to be his next race on 16th May at ParisLongchamp before a tilt at Royal Ascot. He looks to be versatile trip wise whether that is over 6, 7 or 8 furlongs which gives him many options.

RacehorseClub was delighted to be represented by four members involved in The Lir Jet who won the owners ticket ballot. Jonathan Robison travelled down from Newcastle with his wife Chelsey.

Jonathan described his day as “an unbelievable experience, had the best day ever. Thanks again to RacehorseClub and what a run!”

Martin Dixon and Graham Hunt also traveled to Newbury from Hertfordshire. Martin said “a very big thank you for organising my visit to Newbury races. The experience from start to finish was most excellent. The Lir Jet ran very well indeed, I am excited to think what he can achieve over the summer!”

Balko Des Flos who was second in the Grand National for RacehorseClub was paraded at Tramore Racecourse on Sunday along with his stablemates from Henry De Bromhead’s, including Minella Times, Minella Indo, Honeysuckle and Put The Kettle On. Balko Des Flos led the parade and looked in great form. Future plans will be announced this week as well as Potters Corner who has enjoyed time in the Welsh sunshine since his run in the Grand National.
