RacehorseClub caps and cufflinks added to Merchandise page

RacehorseClub is delighted to announce some stylish additions to our merchandise section.
Our RacehorseClub caps come in two fantastic colours, a traditional navy blue or a wonderful burnt orange. But we have significantly upped the ante on the design. The RacehorseClub logo and the name of your chosen horse are now embroidered on the front of the cap while an embroidered 'RacehorseClub' also appears on one side.
All our caps are made using a blend of polyester and cotton along with a patented product, Elastane. The Elastane provides a degree of flexibility in the material which ensures a snug, comfortable fit. These high tech caps will be must have items. Especially if you are going to be getting along to see your horse in the parade ring or joining us for a stable visit.
If our caps are the definition of smart casual then our other new offering in the store is something altogether more classy. Our RacehorseClub cufflinks are delightful objects of desire. These elegant enamel links are decorated in club colours and the effect is wonderful - reminiscent of fine Saxon jewellery these are a handsome addition to anyone's sartorial options.

Balko Des Flos update

Balko Des Flos continues to improve from his injury. The vets have advised to start hand walking and he can be turned out in a small paddock for one hour per day.

They are happy that the bone has not become arthritic which is a really good sign though there is still a fracture line there.

The team at Rathmore Stud will continue the vets recommendation for the next six weeks and follow up with another x-ray before determining the next step with him. He continues to be comfortable and happy within himself.

RacehorseClub Mobile app retired

Sadly we have retired our mobile app which had been in soft launch for testing. We decided that the experience wasn't on par with that of our website after receiving reviews from our members.
However our responsive website works beautifully on a mobile device and provides a more seamless experience for those using both desktop and mobile versions.
Moreover, we would suggest that you add a link to the website on the homepage of your mobile device (like an app button) to ensure that you have quick and easy access to your account and latest news 24/7.

Happy New Year from RacehorseClub

RacehorseClub would like to wish you all a very happy new year. Thank you for your support in 2021 and we very much look forward to enjoying more success together in 2022.

Since launching on 1st April 2021, our very first runner was Balko Des Flos who finished runner up in the Grand National at Aintree. A race which will be remembered forever as it was the amazing Rachael Blackmore and Minella Times who won the race for trainer Henry De Bromhead who trained the first two home.

More great performances on the track soon followed just eight days later when The Lir Jet was narrowly denied in the Group 3 Greenham Stakes at Newbury.

The Lir Jet put up some more big performances over the season including in Group 1 company before winning his first start in America, the Group 3 Franklin Simpson Stakes at Kentucky Downs in September for Brendan Walsh. He is now back in training after a holiday and is being aimed at the Saudi Cup Turf Sprint on 26th February, a race worth $1.5m.

Create Belief has been a superstar since her purchase after her maiden success back in April. She won a valuable premier handicap at the Curragh on Irish Guineas weekend in May before a scintillating performance at Royal Ascot winning the Sandringham Stakes by 5 ½ lengths, arguably the performance of the whole meeting.

Since Royal Ascot, Create Belief improved again to win the Group 3 Desmond Stakes at Leopardstown. Her trainer Johnny Murtagh did a wonderful job as did her two jockeys Ben Coen and Shane Kelly. Create Belief has a huge year ahead when she will be competing in some of the biggest races in Europe.

Potters Corner has proved to be a huge part of the RacehorseClub team running in both English and Welsh Grand Nationals, with his finest hour coming recently when agonisingly beaten a nose at Cheltenham in the cross-country race. He looks sure to have another big day in him in 2022.

RacehorseClub members have enjoyed stable visits to Michael Bell, Henry De Bromhead, Johnny Murtagh and Christian Williams as well as Zoom calls before big races.

RacehorseClub ambassador Ed Chamberlin has been ever present throughout the year both on and off the racecourse and has enjoyed meeting many members.

Freddy Tylicki joined the management team and has done a great job both on and off the racecourse.

RacehorseClub ambassador Oisin Murphy was crowned champion jockey for the third year in a row, an incredible achievement.

Davy Russell, RacehorseClub’s jumps ambassador has performed miracles since returning from injury and showed he is still at the very top of his game with Grade 1 glory over the Christmas period.

A huge team effort and firstly we thank our brilliant members for their support and loyalty, our fantastic trainers who always put the horse first, our jockeys who give us 100% every time they put on the now hugely distinctive RacehorseClub colours, and finally we thank our four amazing horses who have made dreams a reality in 2021.

Balko Des Flos still on the mend

Balko Des Flos unfortunately is still lame after his run at Cheltenham. When he got home he seemed to be improving all the time from what was thought to be a stone bruise. However he is still not right and Henry's vets have taken more x-rays to try and get to the bottom of the issue. With a lot of foot cases, it can take a while for things to become clear.

As soon as we have any further develops we will let you know but rest assured he is getting the best veterinary attention and fingers crossed it's nothing serious and we'll see him back racing soon.

Balko Des Flos recovering well after Cheltenham

Balko Des Flos is recovering well from his stone bruise he suffered at Cheltenham last week. The remainder of the gunge in his foot has come out which is very promising.

He will be monitored closely for the rest of the week with a view to coming back into full exercise next week.

Balko Des Flos Cheltenham Review

Balko Des Flos finished 9th of 15 in the Cross Country race at Cheltenham on Friday. Rachael Blackmore once again rode him with great confidence.

Unfortunately Balko didn't jump with his usual zest throughout the race and was slow over some obstacles, especially the banks. Whereas in his last race he travelled so strongly, he never really tanked as we know. He did however keep going all the way up the hill.

Walking back into the unsaddling area post race, Rachael Blackmore felt he didn't feel quite right behind. Shortly after the race on his way back to the stable yard he was very sore on his hind right leg. Henry De Bromhead immediately got veterinary attention to check him over which included x-rays.

As with every horse, their well-being is our main priority so a full MOT was carried out. Subsequently it was found that he had in fact got a stone bruise in his foot. This is the equivalent of trying to go for a run with a stone in your sock, so the pain is not nice!

He could have stood on a stone leading up to the race and it took the pressure of the race to bring it out which would describe his under performance. The gunge in his foot from the stone bruise was released so with some careful treatment he should be back exercising in just over a week.

The fact he still tried his heart out when obviously in pain shows what a warrior he is and as always we are so proud of Balko.

Fingers crossed he recovers well and we all see him back in action very soon.

Photos from the race can be viewed here.

Balko Des Flos Cheltenham Review

Balko Des Flos and Potters Corner both ran fantastic races yesterday in the cross country race at Cheltenham finishing 5th and 6th.

Potters Corner made the running and gave it a good go from the front before getting tired in the home straight. He stuck to his task very well looking to really enjoy himself, getting into a good rhythm with his jumping.

Balko Des Flos travelled powerfully throughout and looked the winner for the majority of the way but his huge weight compared to his rivals eventually found him out.

Christian Williams said; "Potters Corner has run a big race. We decided to make the running to give him a good sight of his fences and knew there wouldn’t be much pace on. He got into a good rhythm jumping and did us all proud.

He stuck to his task well and I’m sure he’s got a big race in him this season. He’s come out of the race absolutely fine and we’ll now make a plan going forwards.

Jack Tudor said the ground was once again against him and if it was soft would have been much closer at the finish but on that quick ground he just couldn’t quicken. I’m delighted with him and he’ll give us all a lot of fun for the rest of the season.”

Henry De Bromhead said; “Balko Des Flos has run an extremely good race. He travelled powerfully throughout jumping well and avoided a bit of traffic in front of him along the way.

Going into the race I was very happy with him but unfortunately his handicap mark has found us out. He got struck into by another horse so has a bit of a cut which we’ve treated but hopefully it’s nothing serious.

He’ll travel back to Ireland on Sunday and we’ll make a plan next week. My immediate thoughts are we’ll come back to Cheltenham in December for another go at the cross country race and take it from there.

Rachael was delighted with him and said she thought he’d win going to two out but the weight has found him out.”

RacehorseClub’s Freddy Tylicki said, “Both Balko Des Flos and Potters Corner have run huge races and have done us all very proud. We’ll make a plan of attack going forwards but they’ve ran their hearts out so that’s all we can ask for.

Jack Tudor gave Potters Corner a positive ride from the front and he showed plenty of enthusiasm and we all feel there's another big race in him.

Balko Des Flos travelled like the class act he is but giving huge amounts of weight all round to his rivals has eventually found him out. Both horses will give us all a lot more fun this season and there’s plenty to look forward to. Thank you all for your continued support.”

Balko Des Flos Cheltenham Race Preview

Balko Des Flos and Potters Corner are declared to run at Cheltenham tomorrow in the Glenfarclas Cross Country Handicap Chase at 2.55pm.

Rachael Blackmore takes the ride on Balko Des Flos.

Jack Tudor takes the ride on Potters Corner.

Declarations can be viewed here.

The race will be shown live on ITV4 and Racing TV (channel 426 on Sky).

Balko Des Flos and Potters Corner are back in action tomorrow at Cheltenham in the cross country race as part of a fantastic day one of the prestigious November meeting.

Both horses had their prep runs three weeks ago for this race and reports since have been very encouraging.

Balko Des Flos took a liking to the cross country fences back at the Cheltenham Festival in March before stumbling and unshipping Rachael Blackmore. Rachael reported that day that he loved the change of fence style which we then saw at Aintree in the Grand National.

Tomorrow Balko Des Flos carries top weight of 11 stone 12 pounds which is a stone more than the next of his rivals in the handicap. As his rating suggests, he is by far the best horse in the race but giving so much weight away to his rivals makes it a tough task.

Since Galway his trainer Henry De Bromhead has been very pleased with his work. He’s lost a lot of weight and will strip far fitter ahead of tomorrow. Henry has sharpened up his jumping by doing some loose schooling in the indoor arena which Balko seemed to enjoy.

Henry De Bromhead said,

“Balko Des Flos is in great form. This race has been the plan since the Grand National. It was important to get a run into him at Galway and tomorrow I’m hoping he runs a very big race. He was going well in the cross country back at the Festival before his unfortunate unseat of Rachael.

Obviously he is carrying a big weight compared to his rivals but he’s entitled to it as he really is a top class horse. Fingers crossed Balko and Rachael have a safe trip round and if they do, I’d be very hopeful he’d be in the mix.”

Potters Corner ran in this race last year finishing 3rd. Jack Tudor again takes the ride tomorrow and is 11 pounds lower in the handicap than the mark he ran off last year.

Ideally he’d want some more cut in the ground but hopefully he goes well. He had a nice prep run at Aintree three weeks ago which should put him spot on for tomorrow.

Christian Williams said.

“Potters Corner seems in great order. Since Aintree he’s done plenty of work and I’m hopeful he puts up a much improved performance tomorrow. A little bit of rain would be a help but it was decent ground in this race last year when he finished third. We’ll ride him patiently and let Jack get him into a rhythm and see how we go.”

RacehorseClub ambassador Davy Russell said,

“It’s great RacehorseClub is represented by Balko Des Flos and Potters Corner in such an important race in the racing calendar. To have two fancied runners at a big meeting like this is great.

Balko Des Flos has plenty of weight but he’s an exceptional horse and as we saw in April he still retains plenty of ability. Potters Corner ran very well in this race last year so there’s no reason why he can’t go well again.”

RacehorseClub’s Freddy Tylicki said,

“Tomorrow is a big day for our members and fingers crossed both horses do us all proud. Both Henry and Christian are very happy with them so hopefully they go well. Most importantly they come back safe and sound and everyone enjoys the day. It’s great that there will be many owners ticket ballot winners on track to cheer on their horses."

Balko Des Flos is currently priced around 9/2 and an each way bet is advised.

Potters Corner is currently priced around 9/1 and an each way bet is advised.

A hugely exciting day ahead and the very best of luck to all members.

Balko Des Flos loose schooling

Balko Des Flos has come out of Galway in fantastic form. He has enjoyed some loose schooling in the indoor school this week. This is basically where he jumps over hurdles and fences without a rider on his back. He seems to really enjoy it and this will sharpen up his jumping going into Cheltenham.

25 March 2022

Balko Des Flos Galway Review

Balko Des Flos finished 11th on his first run back of the season at Galway on Saturday. Rachael Blackmore reported that he was quite keen in the early part of the race which can sometimes be the case on the first run back from a break due to freshness. He got quite tired on very soft ground on the second circuit so just looked after him from there on in. Rachael said he seemed very well in himself, but he will come on a lot for the run.

Henry de Bromhead said, “Balko Des Flos is absolutely fine after the race. He got quite tired on bottomless ground but overall, Rachael was happy with him. He was keen early doors as I think he was excited to be back on a racecourse! He’ll come on plenty for that initial outing, and it was important to get him going again. All roads now lead to Cheltenham on 12th November for the cross country race which has been the plan since the Grand National. I’m really looking forward to running him back at Cheltenham and I’m sure we’ll see a vast improvement from Saturday.”

Balko Des Flos Galway Race Preview

Balko Des Flos is declared to run at Galway tomorrow in the W.B. Gavin & Co. Handicap Hurdle at 3.37pm.

Rachael Blackmore takes the ride.

Declarations can be viewed here.

The race will be shown live on Racing TV (channel 426 on Sky).

Balko Des Flos is back in action tomorrow at Galway, his first run back of the season since finishing second in the Grand National in April. Balko enjoyed a great summer break with plenty of sun on his back spent in the paddocks. The Grand National would have taken its toll on him as he put absolutely everything in that day. Giving him plenty of time off would have helped him mentally and physically in preparation for the season ahead.

Henry de Bromhead was delighted with his condition when he returned to him for training and reports have been very positive. He still shows all his old enthusiasm and has been working very well. Henry was very keen to get a run into him before his main early season target of the cross-country race at Cheltenham on 12th November. Tomorrow’s race looks the ideal starting point reverting to hurdles at a track he won the famous Galway Plate at back in 2017.

Rachael Blackmore is booked to ride, having her first ride back since her injury back in July. She was very keen to take the ride and felt Balko was the ideal horse to get her back onto the track. As we all know, Rachael and Minella Times were the only partnership which stood in front of Balko in the Grand National but its fantastic to have riding for us tomorrow.

Henry de Bromhead said, “Balko is back in action tomorrow and I’m very happy with him. He came back to me in great condition and the summer break did him the world of good. His training has been excellent and as always is a pleasure to train. He really is a favourite in the yard so we’re all excited to see him back in action. His main aim this side of Christmas is the cross-country race at Cheltenham on 12th November. I wanted to get a run into him before then to sharpen him up. I feel the race is the ideal starting point for his season and I’m hoping he runs well. He’s got a long season ahead in some massive races so its all to look forward to. Rachael Blackmore is back from injury and takes the ride which is great, and I know she can’t wait to reunite with Balko.”
