Happy New Year from RacehorseClub

RacehorseClub would like to wish you all a very happy new year. Thank you for your support in 2021 and we very much look forward to enjoying more success together in 2022.

Since launching on 1st April 2021, our very first runner was Balko Des Flos who finished runner up in the Grand National at Aintree. A race which will be remembered forever as it was the amazing Rachael Blackmore and Minella Times who won the race for trainer Henry De Bromhead who trained the first two home.

More great performances on the track soon followed just eight days later when The Lir Jet was narrowly denied in the Group 3 Greenham Stakes at Newbury.

The Lir Jet put up some more big performances over the season including in Group 1 company before winning his first start in America, the Group 3 Franklin Simpson Stakes at Kentucky Downs in September for Brendan Walsh. He is now back in training after a holiday and is being aimed at the Saudi Cup Turf Sprint on 26th February, a race worth $1.5m.

Create Belief has been a superstar since her purchase after her maiden success back in April. She won a valuable premier handicap at the Curragh on Irish Guineas weekend in May before a scintillating performance at Royal Ascot winning the Sandringham Stakes by 5 ½ lengths, arguably the performance of the whole meeting.

Since Royal Ascot, Create Belief improved again to win the Group 3 Desmond Stakes at Leopardstown. Her trainer Johnny Murtagh did a wonderful job as did her two jockeys Ben Coen and Shane Kelly. Create Belief has a huge year ahead when she will be competing in some of the biggest races in Europe.

Potters Corner has proved to be a huge part of the RacehorseClub team running in both English and Welsh Grand Nationals, with his finest hour coming recently when agonisingly beaten a nose at Cheltenham in the cross-country race. He looks sure to have another big day in him in 2022.

RacehorseClub members have enjoyed stable visits to Michael Bell, Henry De Bromhead, Johnny Murtagh and Christian Williams as well as Zoom calls before big races.

RacehorseClub ambassador Ed Chamberlin has been ever present throughout the year both on and off the racecourse and has enjoyed meeting many members.

Freddy Tylicki joined the management team and has done a great job both on and off the racecourse.

RacehorseClub ambassador Oisin Murphy was crowned champion jockey for the third year in a row, an incredible achievement.

Davy Russell, RacehorseClub’s jumps ambassador has performed miracles since returning from injury and showed he is still at the very top of his game with Grade 1 glory over the Christmas period.

A huge team effort and firstly we thank our brilliant members for their support and loyalty, our fantastic trainers who always put the horse first, our jockeys who give us 100% every time they put on the now hugely distinctive RacehorseClub colours, and finally we thank our four amazing horses who have made dreams a reality in 2021.

Potters Corner enjoying a rest

28 December 2021

Potters Corner Welsh Grand National Review

Potters Corner pulled up in yesterday's Welsh Grand National. The race got underway on the third attempt after two false starts with Potters Corner sitting in a prominent position and travelled very well hitting 4/1 in running at one stage.

Going out on the final circuit he seemed to still have plenty to offer. He got tight into a couple of jumps down the back straight final time which lost a bit of momentum and gradually lost his position before pulling up before 5 out.

Of the 20 starters, 14 runners pulled up which suggests that the ground was extremely testing.

Jack Tudor said post race, "I was very happy with him for the first part of the race. He travelled very well, so much so I had to take a pull a couple of times so we didn't end up in front! Going down the back the petrol was beginning to run out so I just looked after him. I could have kept going but that wouldn't have been fair on the horse as he always tries his very best. I think Cheltenham probably took more out of him than we thought but he seems fine after the race which is the main thing. It was such a hard race with so many horses pulling up so I wouldn't be too disheartened."

Christian Williams said this morning, "Potters Corner seems fine today. I was very happy with him going into the race but maybe Cheltenham left its mark and he's run a bit flat. He travelled very well and showed all of his enthusiasm but as the result showed with 14 top class horses pulling up it really was a war of attrition. He'll have an easy week now to rest and recuperate and we'll make a plan going forwards."

Potters Corner Welsh Grand National Preview

Potters Corner is declared to run in the Coral Welsh Grand National Handicap Chase (Grade 3) at Chepstow tomorrow at 2.50pm.

The race is live on ITV4 and Sky Sports Racing.

A former winner of this famous race in 2019, Potters Corner has snuck into the race at the bottom of the handicap and goes to Chepstow in tremendous form since finishing a nose second in the Cheltenham cross country race 16 days ago.

Jack Tudor who rode Potters Corner to Welsh Grand National victory in 2019 once again takes the ride.

The Welsh Grand National has been the plan for Potters Corner all season so its great he gets the opportunity to line up in the race.

Native River at the top of the weights will no doubt make the running and will give it a good go from the front. Last year's winner Secret Reprieve is at the head of the market and although he hasn't ran since his win last year could still be very well handicapped.

Christian Williams reports Potters Corner to be in fine form going into the race tomorrow.

“Potters Corner is bouncing going into the Welsh Grand National tomorrow. This race has been the plan all year. I was a little bit tense this morning watching the declarations come in but thankfully we were the last horse to get into the race.

The rain has come which is a huge help to Potters Corner and it’s the first time in a long while that he will have his favoured conditions tomorrow. He’s carrying 10 stone and Jack Tudor takes a valuable three more pounds off his back with his claim and I’m very hopeful he can run a huge race.

He was desperately unlucky not to win at Cheltenham on his previous run but I’m glad to report he came out of that race in great order so I’m really looking forward to him running tomorrow.

I’m sure RacehorseClub members are hugely excited to be a part of a race of this stature and fingers crossed Potters Corner can do them all proud.”

RacehorseClub’s Freddy Tylicki said,

“It’s fantastic that RacehorseClub is represented in another hugely important race tomorrow. The Coral Welsh Grand National is always a standout in the jumping calendar and a highlight over the festive period. The race is to be shown on ITV4 and Sky Sports Racing.

It is a very competitive race as you would expect but Christian Williams is very happy with Potters Corner, and it looks like there’s going to be plenty of cut in the ground which is a bonus.

Christian Williams, Jack Tudor and Potters Corner all know what it takes to win a Welsh Grand National so one thing is for sure, you can’t rule out our chances.

Fingers crossed he runs a great race and gives our members a day to remember.”

Potters Corner is around 12/1 with many bookmakers offering 6 and 7 places. It is advised to have an each way bet.

Potters Corner bouncing after Cheltenham run

Potters Corner is reported to be 'bouncing' after his epic race at Cheltenham on Friday. He has gone up six pounds in the handicap to a mark of 138 after the Cheltenham race.

If he does get a run in the Welsh Grand National, he will be officially six pounds 'well in' the handicap. This is due to the race having early weight allocations so he would run off the same mark he did at Cheltenham which was 132.

The next forfeit stage is on 21st December which will give us more of an idea whether or not he will be rated high enough to get a run in the race.

12 December 2021

Potters Corner Cheltenham Review

Potters Corner ran an unbelievable race on Friday in the Cross Country at Cheltenham being beaten a nose. After 3 miles and 6 furlongs, it took the judge to call the result and unfortunately Potters was on the wrong side of the verdict.

Jack Tudor sat very handy on him throughout and kicked for home at the bottom of the hill. He jumped the last brilliantly and set off up the run in over a length clear. He battled like a lion all the way to the line sticking his neck out but was caught right on the winning post. A stride after the line he was back in front. On another the day the head bob might have gone the other way.

He really did deserve to win the race but it wasn't to be. It was just fantastic to see him bounce back to form and show all his old enthusiasm. He came back into the second place spot with his ears pricked and was welcomed to a large applause from the crowd.

Christian Williams has done an amazing job and for those who attended the members Zoom on Thursday evening would have heard he thought he had him back to his best and was expecting a big run.

He's come out of the race in great shape and the plan now will be the Welsh Grand National on 27th December. It will be touch and go whether he gets into the race off his current rating, but if he does, he will be a major player.

A magical day for RacehorseClub members and even coming out second best, we couldn't be prouder of Potters.

Potters Corner Haydock Review

Potters Corner pulled up at Haydock on Saturday after making a bad mistake down the back straight second time round which knocked all momentum out of him. Jockey Adam Wedge tried to get him back into the race jumping two more fences but in the end looked after him for another day.

Trainer Christian Williams said, "I took a chance running Potters Corner due to the small field but in hindsight should have given him a little more time after his very good run at Cheltenham eight days before. Adam looked after him after his mistake and he seems absolutely fine after the race. He'll now go back to Cheltenham on 10th December for the cross country or go straight to Chepstow for the Welsh Grand National on 27th December."

Potters Corner Haydock Preview

Potters Corner is declared to run at Haydock tomorrow in the My Odds Boost On Betfair Handicap Chase at 3.35pm.

Adam Wedge has been booked to take the ride.

Declarations can be viewed here.

The race will be shown live on ITV and Racing TV (channel 426 on Sky).

Christian Williams reported Potters Corner came out of his race at Cheltenham last week in great shape. He ran a very pleasing race making the running before getting tired close home.

With only 7 declared runners, Christian decided to take his chance tomorrow. Strictlyadancer also trained by Christian will go off favourite and looks the one to beat having won well at Cheltenham last week.

Adam Wedge has been booked to ride Potters Corner with Jack Tudor on Strictlyadancer. Adam is a very good jockey who has ridden Potters Corner before and is very much looking forward to the ride.

The ultimate aim is a repeat bid in the Coral Welsh Grand National on 27th December but hopefully Potters continues to bounce back to form tomorrow and runs a good race. The track and trip will suit, but has been the case for a while now a bit more cut in the ground would be preferable.

Potters Corner is priced around 8/1 and a small each way bet is advised.

Potters Corner Cheltenham Review

Balko Des Flos and Potters Corner both ran fantastic races yesterday in the cross country race at Cheltenham finishing 5th and 6th.

Potters Corner made the running and gave it a good go from the front before getting tired in the home straight. He stuck to his task very well looking to really enjoy himself, getting into a good rhythm with his jumping.

Balko Des Flos travelled powerfully throughout and looked the winner for the majority of the way but his huge weight compared to his rivals eventually found him out.

Christian Williams said; "Potters Corner has run a big race. We decided to make the running to give him a good sight of his fences and knew there wouldn’t be much pace on. He got into a good rhythm jumping and did us all proud.

He stuck to his task well and I’m sure he’s got a big race in him this season. He’s come out of the race absolutely fine and we’ll now make a plan going forwards.

Jack Tudor said the ground was once again against him and if it was soft would have been much closer at the finish but on that quick ground he just couldn’t quicken. I’m delighted with him and he’ll give us all a lot of fun for the rest of the season.”

Henry De Bromhead said; “Balko Des Flos has run an extremely good race. He travelled powerfully throughout jumping well and avoided a bit of traffic in front of him along the way.

Going into the race I was very happy with him but unfortunately his handicap mark has found us out. He got struck into by another horse so has a bit of a cut which we’ve treated but hopefully it’s nothing serious.

He’ll travel back to Ireland on Sunday and we’ll make a plan next week. My immediate thoughts are we’ll come back to Cheltenham in December for another go at the cross country race and take it from there.

Rachael was delighted with him and said she thought he’d win going to two out but the weight has found him out.”

RacehorseClub’s Freddy Tylicki said; “Both Balko Des Flos and Potters Corner have run huge races and have done us all very proud. We’ll make a plan of attack going forwards but they’ve ran their hearts out so that’s all we can ask for.

Jack Tudor gave Potters Corner a positive ride from the front and he showed plenty of enthusiasm and we all feel there's another big race in him.

Balko Des Flos travelled like the class act he is but giving huge amounts of weight all round to his rivals has eventually found him out. Both horses will give us all a lot more fun this season and there’s plenty to look forward to. Thank you all for your continued support."

Potters Corner Cheltenham Race Preview

Balko Des Flos and Potters Corner are declared to run at Cheltenham tomorrow in the Glenfarclas Cross Country Handicap Chase at 2.55pm.

Rachael Blackmore takes the ride on Balko Des Flos.

Jack Tudor takes the ride on Potters Corner.

Declarations can be viewed here.

The race will be shown live on ITV4 and Racing TV (channel 426 on Sky).

Balko Des Flos and Potters Corner are back in action tomorrow at Cheltenham in the cross country race as part of a fantastic day one of the prestigious November meeting.

Both horses had their prep runs three weeks ago for this race and reports since have been very encouraging.

Balko Des Flos took a liking to the cross country fences back at the Cheltenham Festival in March before stumbling and unshipping Rachael Blackmore. Rachael reported that day that he loved the change of fence style which we then saw at Aintree in the Grand National.

Tomorrow Balko Des Flos carries top weight of 11 stone 12 pounds which is a stone more than the next of his rivals in the handicap. As his rating suggests, he is by far the best horse in the race but giving so much weight away to his rivals makes it a tough task.

Since Galway his trainer Henry De Bromhead has been very pleased with his work. He’s lost a lot of weight and will strip far fitter ahead of tomorrow. Henry has sharpened up his jumping by doing some loose schooling in the indoor arena which Balko seemed to enjoy.

Henry De Bromhead said,

“Balko Des Flos is in great form. This race has been the plan since the Grand National. It was important to get a run into him at Galway and tomorrow I’m hoping he runs a very big race. He was going well in the cross country back at the Festival before his unfortunate unseat of Rachael.

Obviously he is carrying a big weight compared to his rivals but he’s entitled to it as he really is a top class horse. Fingers crossed Balko and Rachael have a safe trip round and if they do, I’d be very hopeful he’d be in the mix.”

Potters Corner ran in this race last year finishing 3rd. Jack Tudor again takes the ride tomorrow and is 11 pounds lower in the handicap than the mark he ran off last year.

Ideally he’d want some more cut in the ground but hopefully he goes well. He had a nice prep run at Aintree three weeks ago which should put him spot on for tomorrow.

Christian Williams said.

“Potters Corner seems in great order. Since Aintree he’s done plenty of work and I’m hopeful he puts up a much improved performance tomorrow. A little bit of rain would be a help but it was decent ground in this race last year when he finished third. We’ll ride him patiently and let Jack get him into a rhythm and see how we go.”

RacehorseClub ambassador Davy Russell said,

“It’s great RacehorseClub is represented by Balko Des Flos and Potters Corner in such an important race in the racing calendar. To have two fancied runners at a big meeting like this is great.

Balko Des Flos has plenty of weight but he’s an exceptional horse and as we saw in April he still retains plenty of ability. Potters Corner ran very well in this race last year so there’s no reason why he can’t go well again.”

RacehorseClub’s Freddy Tylicki said,

“Tomorrow is a big day for our members and fingers crossed both horses do us all proud. Both Henry and Christian are very happy with them so hopefully they go well. Most importantly they come back safe and sound and everyone enjoys the day. It’s great that there will be many owners ticket ballot winners on track to cheer on their horses."

Balko Des Flos is currently priced around 9/2 and an each way bet is advised.

Potters Corner is currently priced around 9/1 and an each way bet is advised.

A hugely exciting day ahead and the very best of luck to all members.

Potters Corner Aintree Race Review

Potters Corner finished 7th on his first run back of the season at Aintree yesterday. Going into the race Christian Williams believed he would need the run to put him spot on and that indeed was the case. Jockey Jack Tudor reported after the race he travelled well, jumped well but the ground was too quick for him. He described the ground as beautiful, good jumping ground but as we know Potters Corner prefers softer the better. They went steady from the outset and then quickened at the end of the back straight second time round which found Potters out. Ideally, he wants a very strong gallop throughout as he is a thorough stayer.

Although the finishing position is disappointing it was very important to have got a run into him and that will bring him on no end fitness wise for his season ahead.

Christian Williams post-race said, “I’m not disappointed at all, Aintree is a sharp track and the way the race was ran didn’t suit him and the ground was too quick for him. It was beautiful safe jumping ground therefore I was happy to run him on it as he really needed a run to get him going for the season. He’s absolute fine after the race, he took a good blow which was expected, and Jack said he retains plenty of enthusiasm and was pleased with him. We’ll now look at the Cheltenham cross country race on 12th November.”

Plans being made for Potters Corner

"It was unfortunate Potters Corner didn't take his chance last week at Chepstow but I think it was the right decision on that ground. It looks like another dry week ahead so Aintree on 24th October looks likely to be his starting point in another veteran's chase. He's in great form so its all systems go when the ground comes right. I'll be in touch."

Potters Corner is due to run at Chepstow tomorrow in the Professor Caroline Tisdall Supports Heroic Jumpers Veterans’ Handicap Chase (0-150) at 2.10pm.

Declarations can be viewed here.

Tomorrow's racecard can be viewed here

The race will be shown live on Sky Sports Racing (channel 415 on Sky, 535 on Virgin Media).

Potters Corner’s regular jockey Jack Tudor takes the ride.

Tomorrow is Potters Corner’s first run back of the season. The ground at Chepstow is currently Good (Selective watering to maintain) which isn’t ideal therefore Christian Williams will walk the course before racing to make sure he feels the ground is safe for Potters Corner to run.

Potters Corner will benefit from tomorrow’s race however it is a nice starting point for him and he’s expected to run a big race. Christian has been delighted with his training since he came in from his summer holiday and feels he has a big campaign ahead.

Christian Williams said “Potters Corner is in great form at home and I couldn’t be happier with him going to Chepstow. Tomorrow is his first run of the season, he’ll come on a little bit for the run but I’d be disappointed if he didn’t run well. The ground is a slight concern as ideally, he wants plenty of cut in the ground. I’ll walk the course and see how fast the ground is, and if I feel its safe jumping ground I’ll be happy to take his chance however If it is too firm I will pull him out. He has a long season ahead so I won’t just run him for the sake of it. Fingers crossed the ground is fine as I’m hopeful of a big run.

Potters Corner is currently 9/1 in places so a small each way bet is recommended.
